Fib Poetry!

math.

made

by God

and found in

almost everything.

math. infinite, powerful,

complex and mysterious, even awe-inspiring,

yet subject to a Creator who is all this and more – for He is infinite love.

three in one and yet one whole. what is my variable in this equation? how unfathomable that even i am significant.

Words

Have

Meaning

And so do

Mathematical Functions

and somehow they both are

Intertwined even though they seem so diff’rent at first.

Let this be a lesson: things once assumed to be opposing are better together.

-Abigail Franklin (freshman, English major)

“When brainstorming what ways [math and writing] could intersect, the original thought was to write lines of poetry with the number of words corresponding to those of the Fibonacci sequence, and eventually decided to use the number of syllables per line to follow the sequence. … Math and poetry are not only surprisingly compatible but also work together beautifully. Poetry often utilizes patterns (haikus, sonnets, and limericks, for example), just as math does, but before this project, we did not give much thought to the intersection of the two. This reinforces our awe for our singular creator who has made all things beautiful with a cohesive design, and that math has a prominent, though often subtle, place in it.”  (Victoria Lawson and Abigail Franklin)
