On October 19, the Taylor Mathematics Department had the privilege of having 3 speakers come talk to our students about how students can pursue a career in Data Science. Hannah King is a Data Scientist at Resultant. Allie (Ternet) Carter is a Biostatistician at IU Health. Jason Argo is the lead Data Scientist for Chick-fil-a. All 3 of these panel speakers are Taylor University graduates, and they spoke about how their time at Taylor helped to prepare them for their current jobs. They spoke about how the problem-solving skills taught at Taylor are essential for holding these kinds of jobs. There is much learning that takes place on the job, and it requires a level of critical thinking that they learned here. As of Fall 2022, Taylor introduced a new Data Science major. The panelists also shared that this kind of major will teach more specific skills that are helpful and would cause these students to stand out amongst other job candidates.
