On October 18th, Taylor hosted the Indiana Section of the Mathematical Association of America conference(MAA). This year was the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Indiana Section, and also the first time Taylor hosted since 2016. Dr. Jeremy Case is currently the president of the Indiana MAA. He and Dr. Derek Thompson helped organize and run the conference this year. It was a great success with about 55 people from surrounding organizations and colleges.

The conference benefitted from two main plenary speakers. Dr. Lew Ludwig shared about how to benefit from Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Jonathon Peterson discussed his research about the importance of self-interacting random walks and their role in long-term patterns. This year, two of Taylor’s own students, Sylvia Huang and Kate Poorbaugh, had the opportunity to present. Their presentation focused on contributions by John Napier, including the Chessboard Abacus, the Golden Ratio, arithmetic, and square root calculations. It was a wonderfully talented group of speakers this year, and they all did great!
