On March 19, 2026, several of Taylor University’s mathematics majors had a unique and inspiring opportunity to hear from Francis Su during his visit to Indiana Wesleyan University. Su, author of Mathematics for Human Flourishing, is a professor at Harvey Mudd College and a leading voice in connecting mathematics with the deeper questions of human life.

For Taylor students—many of whom have read or are currently engaging with his book in their Problem Solving course—the experience brought classroom learning to life in a powerful way. Su explored themes that go far beyond formulas and theorems, inviting students to consider how mathematics intersects with virtues such as beauty, love, community, and justice.
The talk was both intellectually rich and personally engaging. Along the way, Su even delighted the audience with a memorable card trick, reminding students that mathematics is not only meaningful but also full of wonder and surprise.
Events like this highlight what makes the Taylor mathematics program distinctive: a commitment to exploring mathematics not just as a discipline, but as a way of understanding and engaging the world. For students considering Taylor, opportunities to connect with influential thinkers like Francis Su offer a glimpse into a program that values both academic excellence and human flourishing.
