Where Numbers Meet Faith: The Mathematics Senior Retreat Experience

Each January term, senior mathematics majors step away from the routines of coursework and classrooms for something far more formative—a retreat that serves as a meaningful culmination of their journey through the mathematics program. This year, a group of seniors traveled to Michigan for a weekend that blended rest, reflection, and the deep integration of their mathematical growth with their faith.

More than just a break, the retreat created space for students to reflect on how their study of mathematics has shaped the way they think, reason, and see the world—and how those same habits of mind can deepen their relationship with God. Through intentional conversations and shared experiences, students explored what it truly means to know, love, and obey God with both heart and intellect.

The weekend was filled with joyful activities—snow tubing, volleyball, board games, and even an energetic snowball fight—all of which strengthened the bonds formed over years of studying together. Yet, it was the quieter moments that made the retreat especially significant: conversations about calling, faithfulness, and the role of mathematics in serving others and glorifying God.

Despite the cold winter weather, the retreat was marked by warmth—good food, meaningful fellowship, and a shared sense of purpose. As a capstone experience, it allowed these seniors to step back and recognize how their academic journey has not only developed their mathematical abilities but also shaped their character and faith.

In the end, the retreat was more than a memorable weekend—it was a fitting and powerful conclusion to their time as mathematics majors, sending them forward with clarity, community, and a deeper commitment to integrate their faith into every aspect of their lives.
