I spent 10 weeks at Yorktown Middle School and 8 weeks at Blackford High School. One of my greatest joys through my student teaching experience was being able to pour into and care for students with different stories and in different situations. I felt honored that whether my student was stressed about an assignment or test, or was experiencing a challenging situation that they trusted me to listen and help. One of the greatest challenges I faced was navigating classroom management and continually learning how to do it well.
Through my student teaching experience, the Lord taught me and reminded me of my need to rely on Him for strength, patience, and grace on a daily basis. I very quickly realized that as much as I tried to do things based on my own strength and power, it was nowhere near what the Holy Spirit could do. The Lord also reminded me that He is faithful and uses everything for good, as I was able to encourage my students based on challenges I have experienced in my own life.
For those who are also pursuing or thinking about pursuing math education, I would say that no matter how prepared you feel, there will always be something that surprises you. I would also say that no matter how well or poorly you may feel a lesson you planned went, or if the classroom was louder than you may have liked it, the majority of the time, students just need to know that there is someone who cares about them, is willing to listen, and will create a place where they know they are safe and seen. If you are able assure them of that, you have made a far greater impact than you realize.
The Taylor University Mathematics Program will prepare you to be IMPACTFUL in your calling to be a mathematics teacher!

Awesome nuggets, on prepared to realize how one needs to totally depend on Lord Jesus Christ, and the new things to learn no matter how well prepared one is.
