Alumna Lauren James (’22) Got Honorable Mention in the NFL Big Data Bowl 2024

Lauren submitted a project to the NFL big data bowl this year and got honorable mention! There were 10 finalists and 8 honorable mentions out of 300 submissions. Congratulations to her!

While Lauren James studied in Taylor University, she was a double major in mathematics and computer science, with a minor in data science. She also played on the women’s basketball team! Now, Lauren is in the Masters of Analytics program at Georgia Tech and she hope to begin her career in sports analytics after she graduate this spring. To gain more experience on this, Lauren completed the Big Data Bowl project working with complex NFL tracking data and to challenge herself to enhance her data analysis and machine learning skills.

About her major and interest, Lauren said: “I find math and data fascinating because I see it integrated in all of God’s creation. Talking about sports specifically, there are so many intricate details within every play and every movement, and data analytics offers a unique perspective on the beauty and complexity of athletics”.
