This summer, Dr. Mishra had the opportunity to share at the JSM conference in Boston. JSM, the Joint Statistical Meetings, is a conference with over 5,000 attendees. It states on its website that it’s an opportunity for “statisticians in academia, industry, and government to exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration.”
Dr. Mishra’s presentation was about forming “Data Evangelists” in the classroom. He shared how important it is to encourage students to see themselves as both people who promote making decisions using good data and those who share good news in their data-related careers. Dr. Mishra discussed that if students are aware of these things, it can give them purpose and meaning beyond just their careers. Dr. Mishra would highly recommend JSM for undergraduates and graduate students, as it gives them amazing connections to the statistics and data science community.
